Laring

Description

The Laring is one of the known and unique weapons of Southern Philippines, in the Island of Mindanao. It is relatively lightweight,  designed for slashing and thrusting. Aside from the usual blade tip,there is another pointed tip that make it look like a snake’s 2 pronged tonque. This blade is crafted by us, using  5160/D2 high carbon steel tempered to the desired HRC 58-60. For better mobility the blade guard is a small round steel and for firmer hold , the handle made of lanite is wrapped with leatherette with chromium metal parts burnt finish. The handle end (Pommel) with its unique design prevents the sword from slippage when pulling out the sword when stuck in a target. It also serves as a counter weight for better handling and balance of the sword.

The scabbard is made of kalantas wood, a type of Philippine mahogany. The open type scabbard, (secured in place by a clip), allows for quick drawing.  You just lift the sword handle straight up instead of the usual pulling out of the scabbard.
